How to log meals by voice on iPhone
Typing every food and its amount takes minutes. Dictating a meal in one sentence takes seconds. Here is how to log a meal by voice with Daylory, and what to check before you save it.
What you need
An iPhone with Daylory installed from the App Store. Logging meals requires a subscription. You do not need to create an account.
Step by step: log a meal by voice
- Open the meal log and start dictating.
- Say it the way you would tell a friend. For example: “a Greek yogurt from the supermarket and two slices of toast with olive oil”.
- Review the rows. Daylory splits the sentence into foods, each with its amount in grams, millilitres, pieces, cups or servings, plus its calories and macros.
- Fix anything that does not match. If you did not say an amount, the app suggests one. Change it if it is not what you ate.
- Save the meal. It goes into today’s diary and the summary updates.
How to phrase it for better rows
- Name the food and, if you know it, the amount: “150 g grilled chicken”, “two eggs”, “one cup of cooked rice”.
- Separate foods with “and” or commas so each one gets its own row.
- Say the brand when it matters. “Greek yogurt, the brand I buy” gives a more precise row than “yogurt”.
- For a dish with several ingredients, describe what you cooked. Composite dishes are marked as “estimated”.
What to check before you save
Daylory does not decide for you: you confirm every row. Look at three things.
- The amount. If the suggestion is not what you ate, adjust it. With precise amounts, values come from official food databases.
- The brand. A packaged product can have different values from the generic food. Scan the barcode or read the nutrition table on the label.
- The type of food. A composite dish is marked as “estimated”: treat it as a guide.
Repeat without dictating again
Foods you eat often stay close at hand. “My food” remembers your foods, the names you use and your usual amount. For breakfast you have every morning, “Repeat from another day” logs the meal in seconds.
What you see afterwards
Today’s calories, protein, carbs and fat appear against your goal. The weekly review shows daily averages and the days within your goal. If you want your data elsewhere, you can export the diary as CSV or JSON.
Daylory is a logging tool. It does not provide medical advice or replace a healthcare professional.
Frequently asked questions
Can I correct a row before I save?
Yes. Each row can be changed before you log the meal: the amount, the unit or the food itself.
Are the calories exact?
They are for guidance. When the amount is precise, values come from USDA FoodData Central, CIQUAL or Open Food Facts. Composite dishes are marked as “estimated”. Daylory does not give medical or nutritional advice.
Do I need an account?
No. Daylory has no accounts and no sign-in.
Which languages is it available in?
English, Spanish, French, German and Italian.
How much does it cost?
Logging meals requires a Daylory Pro subscription, monthly or annual. The price and terms are shown in the App Store before you buy. Without a subscription you can still view your history, export and delete your data.
